I feel this is a very comprehensive conceptual framework to do a personal gap analysis
On a scale of 1-5 (where 5 being the highest), how would you rate yourself on the following?
- Physical – right food, enough rest & relaxation, exercising
- Mental – reading, writing, organizing and planning. Read broadly and expose yourself to great mind
- Social/Emotional – focus and exercise in our interaction with others. Helping others in a meaningful way
- Spiritual – value system, sources of inspiration
Updated insights in Nov 2015:
- The gap should be viewed in both ‘absolute’ and ‘relative’ terms. The ‘absolute’ gap is easier to rectify. E.g. I’m not physically fit, I don’t read enough, I can’t socialize well and I don’t believe in spiritual stuff.
- In ‘relative’ gap analysis, we need to ensure:
- One dimension is not underdeveloped vs another dimension. E.g. We say ‘brain over brawn’ or ‘dumb bimbo’ to indicate an advanced physical strength over mental strength. Or someone with strong mental strength but with weak spiritual strength will not be able to comprehend or open his/her mind to things not currently well understood. A person who is weak socially although showing strengths in any of the other 3 areas will not be able to socialize well.
- I think we should have a few role models for each of the above dimension (based on the objectives we want to achieve) so that we can push ourselves beyond our limits.
Updated insights in Jan 2020:
- Think of how to create synergy within the 4 quadrants
- How to jive each of the quadrant
