The conceptual framework for a man's search for meaning

Summing it all up two-zero-one-two

January 2nd, 2012 by dimpledbrain

I wasn’t a big fan of creating new year resolutions until I read back what I wrote in 2010. It was an extremely difficult exercise to complete let alone to craft the first sentence. But I guess it’s worth the effort after all.

I reproduce the structure below and please grab a pen and a paper (preferably a book) for the following – there’s nothing to lose except for a couple of hours.

  1. DREAMS – think about what you would like to have, to be, to share and to do. Build concrete examples around people, feelings and places. Activate your imagination where sky’s the limit! Fill up the following categories:
    • Work
    • Family
    • Relationships
    • Mental
    • Emotion
    • Social
    • Material
    • Physical
    • For each goal, state
      • Why I’ll achieve
      • Why I’m sure to reach
      • Why it’s important

(The above is taken from Anthony Robbins’ The Unlimited Power)

The above structure is important because it has been psychologically tested, e.g. writing down ‘why it’s important’ is important because only a strong reason or purpose is sufficient to see us through the task.

People always talk about setting goals etc but I guess the only ‘structure’ we need to remember is as follows:

High level objectives –> Goals (current and desired states) –> Actions

Completing the above will help us seek what we are looking for, i.e. moving from the ‘unconscious’ zone to the conscious. Don’t worry if you can’t achieve anything at all – it’s the process of writing them down that’s important. ( You’ll understand what I meant next year if you read again what you wrote in 2012.)

After all, remember that a great man is one sentence. Click here for my previous posting.

Unless you are banging on Mayan’s end of the world prediction in 2012, completing the above exercise will better increase your odds for survival.

Lastly, happy new year everyone! It has been a great year and it will definitely be better in 2012. Drop me some comments, let me know your thoughts- I’d love to hear from you!
